FR: A way to deal with too many received reposts #86
Comments
Thanks for the suggestions. An option not to get reposts is possible - TrashNothing has this. I know from talking to TrashNothing that it isn't chosen very often, though. Most people don't change most options. There is a possible change in future, perhaps on mobile only, where the way you view posts is changed so that you see each one full screen and give a yes/no/maybe indicate using buttons or swipe. You might or might not get what I mean without a mockup. If we go down that route, then we'd know for sure that you weren't interested in a particular post, and would then not show it to you (or mail it) when it was reposted. So, I'll probably do something in this kind of area, but not for a while. I'll leave this open. |
Thanks for the reply. Not that I've ever used it, but that sounds a bit like the Tinder UI, which is a good idea. And I guess Freegle's tagline is "like online dating for stuff"! I look forward to any developments. |
I've not used it either, but yes, that's the idea.

Hi. I understand why there is the automatic repost feature, from the point of view of someone listing an OFFER or a WANTED and wanting to make sure their message is seen. But as a person receiving the messages (I get each message as an individual email), the amount of reposts can seem excessive. Some messages I see every three days for weeks or months!
I've been considering writing a client-side mail filter to delete messages based on a blacklist of from addresses (which handily are unique per item) that I know I'll never be interested in. But I was wondering if there was any chance of doing something on the site itself. E.g. a "not interested" or "hide" button in the email (and in the item listing on the website) which would cause the item to no longer appear in my email or Browse view?
Alternatively, or in addition, maybe a site setting to opt-out of receiving any reposts, or at least to reduce them to, e.g., once a week or once a month.
Many thanks for reading this.
