Keyboard input is flaky. On most OS'es printable ascii characters can be input from the
keyboard and this should work.

But there are function keys, special keys and 'secret' emulator specific keys that are needed for smoot operation.
These extra keys curently only works reliably on MacBook laptops.

Perhaps we could write a GUI program to enable input from a graphical keyboard
