Public awareness through engaging visualizations #18
Comments
@leggitta I am willing to work on this issue. Which datasets are we looking to visualize specifically and what platform is being used (other than GitHub) to make real time updates? I can go ahead and make some visualizations with the data that I have cleaned for this project if you think that is best. |
Great questions @synflyn28 . Personally, I'm most interested in mental health, so rates of PTS, suicide, traumatic brain injury, addiction, and chronic homelessness would be a good place to start. For standalone html, I'm a big fan of bokeh. If we're going to build a full web app, I would use flask. But these are suggestions. Really you can use whatever tools that you're most comfortable with. |
I would agree with Alan -- but with the caveat that we should first
storyboard how we would like the GUI to look and act.
Which datasets are we looking to visualize specifically -- I believe this
is still in development.
and what platform is being used (other than GitHub) to make real time
updates? -- We are only using GitHub for code, and the slack channel for
messaging
I can go ahead and make some visualizations with the data that I have
cleaned for this project if you think that is best. -- Definitely! Can you
tell us what data you are using? I think it is a great idea to control the
dataset to ensure we are all looking at the same information.

How do y'all feel about hosting some of the raw data as well as some of our cleaned/derived data on data.world? |
All, The dataset that I want to visualize is here and I was thinking of starting to do something basic like either a scatterplot for a few of the columns or maybe a boxplot. And @leggitta I can upload that CSV to data.world though I would have to be given access to the data repo on there so I could upload it via Python. |
@leggitta I just uploaded the CSV to data.world. Thanks for the invite! |
