What launcher are you using? Do you run an antivirus? Some antivirus software can cause issues and prevent mcef from loading.

And yes, I was running an antivirus, although I think it was working just fine before it happened.

I think haven't fully disabled my antivirus (Kaspersky, fyi). I only turned off the file anti-virus setting to see if it worked.
Turns out, it still crashes regardless.

Try and disable more shields. One of them probably intercepts some GPU calls like Avast does.

Ensure your graphics (AMD or NVIDIA, probably) drivers are up to date. This solved the issue for someone recently.

I've only disabled the shields on Essential Threat Protection in the Settings menu on Kaspersky. Nothing resolved the issue.
