We've been piloting GitHub Issues for citizen engagement in Ambridge for almost a year now. I think it's been generally positive, though there's a lot more we could do with it. I think for this effort to flourish we need a lot more outreach and education in the community. However, personally, I've been reluctant to promote GitHub too heavily because of a) limitations of GitHub on the one hand, and b) the rise of a new tool called Loomio (here's an intro video) that I think might be a better fit for us. The primary limitation of GitHub was articulated recently by @Sirjazzfeet at gratipay/inside.gratipay.com#420 (comment):
Github has a programmer centric user interface and terminology, with a lot of clutter for the non-programmer. So I think Loomio or something like it can go a long way towards living up to the value of openness, lowering the entry barrier for newcomers, most of whom will perhaps not be programmers.
It gets harder and harder to switch platforms the more momentum we have, so we should make a decision one way or another and then run with it. The proposal on this ticket is that we move from GitHub Issues to Loomio for online citizen engagement in Ambridge.
Waddya think? :-)

I've created an Ambridge group on Loomio. If you're interested, go check it out! You should be able to sign in with Facebook, find the first thread I started, and vote on whether or not to move to Loomio.
Thanks to @mmikul and @smkwolek for joining Loomio! Sarah reports that there's no Facebook option. I think if you click "Login" first instead of "Ask to join group" then you can login with Facebook and then ask to join the group. I've made a ticket about adding Facebook directly to the "Ask to join group" workflow: loomio/loomio#2823.
Seems like this fizzled. Given that we already have at least a little bit of momentum here on GitHub, and there's no huge pressure to move to Loomio, let's go ahead and stay parked here for now.
