@theoml Reiner, I haven't heard of anyone that' had a problem with the Sun. The very wide-angle lenses we use make the Sun a small dot on the sensor. |

Well, this is not new. Take a look here: Scroll down to the second image. This post is from 2020. I had this Problem by myself with an ASI-Cam 2 Years ago after a very short time in the Summer. I removed the cam and since then my Allsky cam was retired. In this threat it is also a discussion to use the cheap PI HD 2 Cam and exchange it after a while if necesarry, but with the ASI178MC I have now, it is an expensive way. At astronomie.de this threat is a large one (37 pages) and there is the diskussion regarding sheelding the Camera during the day with separate installed scripts . Also some for cooling and heating. So my idear to include this into the Allsky-Software. CS |

Hi @ All:
As the experiences in the past show, at some regions at the wold the Installation of an Allsky-Cam needs some more intelligence regarding fogged Dome, overheating, freezing and also protecting the Camera-Sensor of the Sun (burning tracks on the Sensor)
Thoma´s Software knows the time of Sunrise and Sunset. So is it simply possible to set an GPIO Output high and low during Day and Night to activate a servo with a Sun-shield.
Also the PI has an internal 1-Wire-Interface. Here it is also very simple to connect 1 or 2 Temperature-Sensors and to set an Output for cooling or heating the fuselage or the Dome. These tresholds can be adjustet in the settings of the Allsky-Software.
Comments?
Regards
Reiner
