When selecting previous years such as 1950, it takes a long time to click. It would be more flexible to let the user enter the date freely.

I assume one reason inputting a date is now allowed is to ensure its format is correct. One better option (if implementable) would be to replace the Month and Year selector with drop-down menus which make selecting month and year easier/faster.
