What happened?

In the RedClover example, setting the sowing population to 500 or 50 seems to make no difference to the biomass predictions.

What Operating System are you on?

Just having a look at this myself and you are right, there is very little effect of sowing population when comparing 50 and 500, but values of 5 and 5000 do show some difference

Looking at the red clover model, it looks like the plant population only impacts the initial wt of some organs, so it may be that it just doesn't have enough influence on the growth of the plant. Someone with more experience with the model might be able to share some more information on why that is.

But it does confirm that the sowing population is working, it just doesn't have a very large effect on the results.
